GPUs to max out BF3 and other demanding games? - Page 3

So the main issue with this game is the Vram?? eg. the 460's having only 1GB is a issue isn't it? One that even two 560Tis wont solve
post #22 of 67
Nah, a single GTX 580 will do you good. BF3 has many SLI/CFX issues right now that has yet to be sorted out. I get capped 60 FPS with All Ultra, except AA 2x (absolutely no diff from 4x), AF 16X, Shadows medium.

i cant say about the green team, but i have my crossfire 6950s working and scaling great, they can always optomize the drivers to run the game better and im sure the game itself, but im getting around 60 fps in eyefinity with my crossfire so id say its working just fine on ATI side of things

2 460's would get about 35-45 with everything max. My 590 gets about 80-110 so you don't need 2 580s, you're just more likely to come by some.

This game looks good even on LOW.. spending thousands of dollars for "Ultra" is just sad
No only do you tell him what he likes, you're a sitting hippocracy with that there 980x and SLI 580s

2 GTX 470s should be more than enough. 2 GTX 460s are what I recommend to have as a minimum. Also keep in mind that in BF3, the FXAA (Post-AA at high) is more than enough and MSAA even at X4 is pretty useless.

I have two GTX 570s and I run all games - games such as Crysis 2 and 1, Mtero 2033, BF3, etc. - at 40fps+ at 1600p maxed (except for AA in Crysis 1 (which can go up to ridiculously high levels which really don't change image quality)). In fact I usually have no problems running games maxed easily at 60+ fps except for a few select titles.

Working fine here with CF 6970 with a light OC. Everyting on Ultra and 4xMSAA. 70+ FPS.
I have seen a max of 1650Mb VRAM and average of around 1350Mb, so 580's wont do.

I know ppl say just turn off AA, but when i spend 700-1000$ on GPU's alone i want to know that i can max out everything, even though it does not look very different.

Oddly you seem to defy most benchmarks out there, along with missing the point of the term maxed.

OT: 2 460s are plenty for BF3 if you're just looking for a good experience.

The issue of VRAM is quite exaggerated. Usually, if it is lacking, your PC will find it easy to use RAM instead, costing you a few fps but nothing drastic.
With high AA, and a low VRAM (less than a 1GB) there can come a point when you hit a VRAM wall, but with anything more than 1Gb of VRAM that is extremely rare.

I don't know; running AA at 16xQ Crysis seems pretty useless to me. 4x is more than enough, even though I can easily run the game at 16x, I have seen no claims of anyone seeing any difference in visual quality between 4x AA and 16xQ AA. Though, I admit, high (8x+) CSAA in Crysis tends do be slightly problematic for my system.

Maxed, by my definition, is running the game at the highest visual quality; sometimes some changes just make the game 'heavier' while offering negligible to undistinguishable improvements.
As an example, I do play around with a lot of mods in Crysis, and I know a few options (through the console) that when artificially turned to highest will absolutely cripple any system, without any visual benefits... That is technically the definition of 'absolute maxed' (turning up everything to the maximum it can be), but as you see with this example, there is a serious flaw in it.
