I managed to find one in a local store, but it was only $40 Australian, (so a bit more than that US, maybe $42) less than a Sapphire 6970 from another shop.

I would just go for a 6970 if it's only $40ish more for sure. I believe the overclocking headroom is greater. I'm stuck under 955/1450 for stability (only in benchmarking anyway. while playing I stick at 900/1375. no need to be greedy )

Also, as to the original question, you should be good with crossfire on a 750w PSU
post #15 of 16
I don't think the PSU is good enough. Perhaps if you stick to the 250W TDP for each of the 6970s, you might be able to do it. I've got powertune set to +20% to allow up to 300W TDP on the cards, for when I need to overclock. This wouldn't be an option for you, as the 2 300W cards and your overclocked CPU would be around 750W. So basically, if you're fine with keeping the cards at stock, it'd be okay, but personally I'd give myself more headroom than that.

Regarding your bottlenecking question, no, you're perfectly fine with that CPU @ 4.0 GHz. No bottleneck.

tl;dr You'd be okay stock (GPU), just don't overclock.
