I would consider this if it's 1155 socket. I'm getting tired of getting a new motherboard whenever Intel launches a new chip. If I'm not mistaken, Ivy Bridge will be the first new chip that they'll launch that will work under the same socket.

I'll go for IB and will just skip this.

X79 is replacing X58 which was introduced in 2008. Intel changes sockets because of changes in design not to ripoff customers. Look at Amd. They keep around the same socket and look how dreadful there performance is.

I'm not saying they are ripping people off(but I really don't care if they do, thus, we are given a freedom to choose). I'm just saying, for those people that just built a 2600K rig, it would not make any sense to jump to another socket again.


Edit: On a second thought, I would love to see its benchmarks comparison vs 2600K.
