Asus DCII 6950

Thread Starter
Hello,

I've got two questions and I'd appreciate some information from you awfully wise folks.

Firstly, I own an Asus DCII 6950 and I've found a lot of contradictory information about whether the card's switch is dual bios, dual bios and DVI or merely DVI. Which is it?

Finally, Asus Smart Doctor is quite possibly the worst program ever conceived (randomly setting the voltage to 1.8 is not a welcome 'feature'), but I'm forced to use it because of the voltage control chip; are there any ways to alter the voltage in the BIOS or similar?

Thanks,
Speirs

1. Asus Smart Doctor, under settings to enable "Overclock Range Enhancement" and it increases the CCC max core clock to 1620 MHz and memory to 2500MHz and voltage tweak.

2. It is not a BIOS switch. The switch option is to enable DVI-Single-Link with all Display Ports enabled. The other option is to enable DVI-Dual-Link and disable all Display Ports.

DVI Single Link = Max 1920x1200
DVI Dual Link = Max 2560x1600

Actually, I flashed my bios some months ago, and I just tested before, it switches the bios.

After switching it to the left side(it was on right), It got back to 6950 bios, and vice versa.

So yeah, it is a DVI, and a BIOS switch.

No doubt you could flash it with a 6970 BIOS.

But actually that's not a BIOS switch. If you did not use a Display Port or a DVI-Dual-Link monitor at that point of time, you would not notice that that switch is just to enable both DVIs Dual Link and to disable Display Ports.

The other direction of the swith is to enable all Display Ports but swtiches the DVIs to Single Link.

I don't say it doesn't switch the DVI modes.

But, it also switches the bios, I made a quick video about it in case you don't believe, the quality is pretty crappy tho, because I recorded it with my phone. But I am sure you see the important things.
I didn't crop it, so you should skip the boot if you want.

P.S.: It's also a bit dark in the case, but you can hear when I switch it.

I can record it with an actual camera if you wish.

I can't see the shaders count clearly in that video but thanks for the effort. Rep+

Edit:

Oh yes please with the camera because I have been reading alot of informations and don't know which is correct. And does this apply to all Asus 6950?

Yes it is a dual bios switch as well as switching the DVI ports. I had this GPU for a brief time. It would not flash to 6970 though.

Thanks for the good info guys, GamerDaPro's findings are awesome regarding the dual bios switch. Just curious if anyone has a BIOS I could use to flash my DCII 6950 to 6970?

I really dislike Asus Smart Doctor, is there no way to adjust the voltage outside of it?

Oh and in general, what are good, stable, clocks for the default voltage (1.1v)?

You could get the 6970 BIOS from GamerDaPro and attach it in his post.

Afterburner doesn't support its competitor non-reference cards. Last option is to try Sapphire Trixx.

Here you can download the bios I used.It works pretty fine for me.You also asked for the clock speeds, and voltage.

My current clock is 950/5800(aka 1450) on stock 6970 1.175V VDDC. I can run 1010Mhz stable on 1.25V, but I don't really want to run it for a long time, I just worry about the card.

By the way, I also dislike SmartDoctor, but I can't find another software for setting voltage.

Edit: oh yeah, you also asked how to flash it, I used Ati Winflash 2.0.1.14, just download the bios, open AtiWinflash, save your current bios(not nessecary, because you have dual bios) and then load the 6970 bios, and click program, then reboot, and you should have 6970.However your card might not work well with that bios, in that case you should switch to the another bios, and restore the wrong one to the original.(I don't know exactly how, just google it.)
