Asus DCII 6950 - Page 2

If you really want to avoid Asus Smart Doctor, you could try edit the voltage in BIOS to whatever you need such as 1.25v.

Use RBE to edit the voltage. Do not edit anything else other than the VID4 or it will crash and BSOD.

That would set the voltage permanently. I presonally dislike the idea, because you might want to run lower clocks, which don't need high voltage, and it would just cause more heat.

Thanks both of you.

I'll try the BIOS you recommended, GamerDaPro and... when I'm feeling brave I'll attempt a BIOS set voltage (maybe).

Speirs

EDIT: Gamer, when using Asus Smart Doctor do you get randomly high voltage (1.5-1.8)?
Mine seems to spike up for no reason... or when I set it to 1.2v it goes ridiculously high to 1.8v instead of 1.2v. So weird.

If you edit the VID4, it doesn't change the AMD PowerPlay, it will still downclock during idle. So it doesn't use the edited voltage at 2D clocks.

Give it a try.

I haven't experienced it yet, I am using SmartDoc 5.8, maybe it appears in older versions.

Yes of course, but I suppose he didn't buy such an expensive card for 2d apps, I am almost sure he will mainly use it for gaming, or even benchmarks, where it will use the voltage given in VID4.My clock also jumps sometimes to the third state(maximum given clocks, and voltage) while bowsing.

If the clocks and voltage jump during brwosing, some applications must be utilizing the card.

Go to Youtube/Flashplayer/Chrome/FireFox etc, right click and disable "Hardware Acceleration". Or you can globally disable it going to your browser advance settings.

Some driver uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling later... biggrin.gif

Immeasurable thanks to GamerDaPro whose BIOS for my DCII 6950 worked flawlessly (first time!).

Just some closing questions to anyone in the know:
1) Is OpenCL supposed to be ticked or unticked? (I vaguely remember it being ticked or I could be imagining things)
2) When I was flashing the card and running the "unlockrom" command some garbled text appeared after the "processing" phase - I don't think this affected anything but is it normal?

@Speirs :

Hello,

I have the same problem, I use Gamerdapro Bios But I haven't 1536 Shaders.

Which driver did you use for unlock ?

Sorry for my english, I am French.
You should used "atiflash" to flash the BIOS. Copry the 6970 BIOS to a bootable USB drive.

See where to download and how to do it here http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/1070678-unlock-oc-6950-tf3-twin-frozr.html
