[MP1st] Call of Duty to Have 3 Year Dev Cycle? No BF3 Influence on MW3, and More - Page 4

If the next COD has more than a 1 year development period, shows some innovation and uses an up to date engine, I almost won't hesitate to buy it.

Source? You're saying that the guns in Mw2 are not rendered in 3d?

That gun looks exactly the same with every graphics option maxed. Load it up and see for yourself. If you don't have it unlocked in MP, you start with the PP2000 in the 3rd to last level on Campaign, where you play as Dima and you're assaulting Kaffarov's compound. That's a good place to see the crap-tastic F2000 model as well.

And again, I'm no hater. I love the game. The weapons look like arse, though.

If you ask me, DICE should have copied Infinity Ward a little when they were designing their weapon models.
They are not Cartoonish. That is what they weapons look like in real life. I have seen the M4, M16, M9, M1911, the AK-74, and the first shotgun you unlock, firsthand; and have fired all of those but the AK-74, and DICE got just about all the features correct, such as rate of fire, recoil, and handling.

Me too! We haven't seen a really top notch WWII game since the first Modern Warfare showed how much money there was in modern scenarios. WaW was ok.

Duurrr, of course they're 2D sprites. It was a clever way to keep performance up alongside giving higher-definition models without needing to actually model anything. Along with gun sounds, they're all pre-recorded using the sounds of a lyre bird that was in-front of an arcade machine, not actual guns!
[DoIneedtoevenbotherwithsayingsarcasmhere?]

Anyways, I would love to see the CoD developers learning to use a new engine, even if it were the Cryengine 3. Unless they want to go with the new fad of creating their own engine, which I wouldn't support them doing.

What I would love to see is DICE's take on a WW2/Vietnam war campaign.

Considering this is their 3rd real attempt at single player(Mirror's Edge, BFBC2), and undoubtedly the most cinematic, they are going in the right direction in my book.

So far, the companies who do their campaigns right were Bioware (Mass Effect derp!), Bungie (Halo derp!, espiecially Halo Reach for me), Naughty Dog (need me to spell out for you?) & Irrational Games (Bioshock). They have the right amount of action and scenes where you can just sit back and take the entire world in. Not boom boom boom swish ARGH!! boom like the CoD games. BF3 attempted that with parts like the Going Hunting campaign (my fav), but there were just too many Quicktime Events and the action scenes werent memorable enough.

The only developer that should be given the right to reuse the same engine over and over again is Valve. A 10 year old engine but they make use of superior art style, directioning, characters, plots, etc. to keep everything fresh and imo, looks better than alot of games.

Interesting fact: Many people don't know that there was a game called "Call of Duty" and that it was awesome.
SO TRUE.

And that it just happened to have a massive competitive community and it was out for 2 entire years before they started killing the series releasing one every year.

Of course they look like their real-life counterparts, but in a cartoonish, blandly textured depiction. If that picture of the PP2000 didn't convince you, I don't know what will. As I said, the assault rifles, the M9, and some of the LMGs look great - but the disparity between the good looking guns and the bad looking guns is massive. CoD guns look gritty, detailed, and real. BF guns have always looked slightly cartoonish and fake. Especially the shotguns and the sniper rifles.

Conversely, BF3's environments are gorgeous, while CoD environments are muddy and blah.
