Not surprising...supply and demand...short supply for competition coupled with astronomical prices and you will see SSD manufacturers increase their prices as well to milk the consumers more.

Sad thing is that I believe prices will not drop to the pre-flood levels for a very, very long time.

My Wal-Mart is selling 2Tb Seagate external's for $89.99. I guess I'll be grabbing a few to see what's inside...

Doubly worse if it starts to affect DRAM prices -- as some users will find SSD's more attractive Especially for notebooks etc!

As much as I want to believe newegg and other similar establishments aren't complete scumbags, you might be right. I was shocked to see that they raised the price on 1tb WDs AGAIN. Anything for a quick buck, eh?

Its simple economics, not the public's view of money/greed.

Again, economics. Higher demand for SSDs. Not surprising in the least.

Things sell for what the buyer is willing to buy for and the seller is willing to sell for.

Indeed, got to milk the consumers when you can. They will probably keep increasing the prices as long as they do not see a major drop-off in sales. Oh and, a lot of these places are selling existing stock of drives so it's not like all of them suddenly have to order from WD and therefore must pay the higher prices. Prices at NCIX shot up as soon as announcements were made about the shortage. I guess their stock must have depleted at the same exact time

Dang, what the hell am I supposed to do about getting more storage now -_-.............

hopefully prices go down somewhat. I don't mind paying $80 for a 1tb, but some of these prices are over $100!

It's not about their current stock... it's about future orders.

Online sites try to keep lighter inventory to reduce warehouse and capital costs. Therefore, they often make orders for additional stock.
Once again...

Personally I feel this will be nearly identical to when RAM prices shot through the roof. You couldn't buy a 4GB kit for less than $100. Nowadays you can get 8GB of RAM for a decent price, with 16GB being approachable in prices.

It'll be a matter of supply growing again.
