Performance States

Thread Starter
Recently I used GPU Shark and noticed the Performance States.

Even though EVGA Precision was saying I had been running around 710 Mhz, GPU Shark put the Pstate at 8 (not max, which is 0), and recorded the Mhz at 300.

After some looking around, I found a Nvidia GPU tool called PowerMizer that allowed you to change the Pstate to 0. I did this and saw a massive improvement in performance, triple the fps in all benchmarks.

My question is WHY would EVGA report 710 mhz, when it's not truly outputting those clock speeds. Has anyone else seen this before?

If you set your clocks with EVGA Precision, I suggest looking up GPU Shark and finding out what your Performance State is set at. It would seem that the standard for gaming is to have the GPU Pstate at 8, which is probably under half of what your trying to hit with your Overclock.

Any comments or clarifications would be appreciated

Unless the game is an old one that doesn't need much power the card should hit p0
Using vsync sometimes causes lower states cause it doesn't need the power to hit the fps cap

However if your running new games and this is happening I'd say something is wrong try driver reinstall or use something to force p states I programs like nvinspector
