Hi, before i start on what i want to ask i am aware there are thread's with the basic question's i am going to ask but not as newbie friendly as i need them. I am very new to building computer's and this is only my second one. So i just built a computer a few week's ago and i just recently found out after talking to a friend that my ram is not running at 1600mhz as it is set too. I got Corsair Vengence 1600mhz DDR3 ram. It is put into a GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Intel Z68 Motherboard - ATX, Socket H2 (LGA 1155), Intel Z68 Chipset, 2133MHz DDR3, SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 7.1-CH Audio, Gigabit LAN, SuperSpeed USB 3.0, CrossFireX/SLI Ready. I am clueless at where to even start at changing my settings to get the proper use out of my ram. If anyone could be so kind as to make a full newbie guide i would really appreciate it. Thanks

Hello, Conrad!

I don't have your motherboard, so I cannot give you a full guide, but I can do my best. You're going to want to go into the BIOS to change the timings / voltages for your RAM. You should have an option related to or called OC Tweaker. Click that, once you're in that there should be settings for DRAM timing control, something labeled like that. Click that, that's where you want to be. Once you're in there, you're going to want to enter the timings you need to have, make sure it's on Manual (other options are Auto and most likely XMP).

For example, the timings for my Vengeance kit are 9-9-9-24, and then the command rate is 2T. So that's what I'd enter. Once you've entered that, go back to OC Tweaker and ensure that DRAM Voltage is 1.5v and the speed is 1600MHz.

Save settings and boot into Windows.

Are you sure that your current motherboard is compatible with that kind of speed . I had that problem with my system which is why i had to change to my currently MOBO. The motherboard wasnt able to read all the speed the ram was dishin out.

Oh, im sorry i didnt realize that in your post it said (2133 mhz) Do what E-peen said above, as i dont know too much about ram.

Ok done. I changed the multiplier to 16.00 which made it 1600mhz as you said pappasmurf but i also checked all my timing and voltage as E-PEEN said and all is smooth so far. I run CPU-Z and it shows the DRAM Frequency at 802.4mhz so i think it was a success. Thank you all for your help
