Whats your thoughts on PCI E Adapters

Thread Starter
Hey there!

I'm soon to be grabbing hold of Two 5870s and I'm well aware that they both have 2 6 pin slots. Now the problem I have is my current PSU has 2, 6 + 2 Pins wires and so I should need adapter to fill the other two connectors right?
Also what would be best if i did, have one adapter on each card or use both adapters on one?

So basically i would like to know the members of OCN Opinions on adapters, and how would i use them?

This.

Nothing wrong with using these power adapters, just make sure you're giving them power from different molex chains and you should be fine.

I haven't had any issues with adapters...though I try to avoid them. I am using one right now to turn two six pins into one eight pin and I don't like it, but it works. If I ever go SLI I will get a new PSU not because of what I have can't power it, but because I won't want to run adapters.

But yeah...just don't try to draw too much current over the molex

I am able to connect them through different Strings, the only things the Molex plugs are connected to is a few LED fans that are barely hitting 500rpm.

Fans only pull a few Watts each....A 6-pin PCIe power connector is intended to dish out a max of 75W each.

What about overclocking the cards i know it would up the power draw quite a bit, is it not recommended?

Answer's still mostly the same, just make sure you spread the current load across the wires, and ensure your psu is rated at 650 watts or above, and there shouldn't be any issues.
