E8200 OC help

Thread Starter
Hey,

I'm new to CPU overclocking. A long time ago I did some VGA overclocking and upgrading the cooling but never CPU. Since my machine now is getting old i tought to give it an OC to have some fun with it before buying a new one (and hopefully not burn that one).

So I'm having a Intel core 2 duo E8200. Stock it's runnig 2.66ghz and I upped it to 2.71ghz. Motherboard is MSI G31 P21/P35. I got 4gig of DDR2 ram

CPU cooling is stock but my case has 1 extra fan and the room temp is around 20°C

Temps are:

Now I'm facing some issues:
Any suggestions about highest clock speed I can go with stock cooling
What would be the highest temp i should go under stress?
I heared that Vcore on auto is bad. How can I change the Vcore?
I just have a standard BIOS at the moment and do all my changes in the Cell Menu. In idle it's 1.13v

I do my Core changes at the cell menue which looks like this (pic is not mine)

Thanks in advance

I'm going to recommend not trying to overclock at all right now for a few reasons.

1. You have stock cooling, invest in a cooler, a decent one is about $20 and can be used with future builds.
2. G31 chipsets are TERRIBLE overclockers, if you try pushing very far you will very likely end up with no computer as your motherboard will die a very quick death, take it from someone who has had experience with such things smile.gif

If you're adement about overclocking, set vcore to 1.4 and raise the FSB as high as it will go being able to boot into windows. Run Prime 95 for stability on blend for 18+ hours, lower your FSB as needed until you reach stability, or raise vcore (1.5 is the max you should go)

That motherboard is bad for overclock.,

It has a G31 chipset which is a big NO for overclock..

Also you do not have any voltage options in BIOS which makes things even worse..

Your best bet is to set RAM @ 667MHz and FSB @ 333MHz and then start upping FSB by 10MHz and test it in the Windows for 20minutes of Prime 95 Small FFT..

If it's stable then add another 10MHz for FSB and test again..

Once you are not able to run P9rime 95 then revert to previous stable FSB value and that's your max stable OC..

CHEERS..
