Will my LGA775 cooler work with my new i5?

So I bought a Xiggy Dark Knight back about 2 years ago (give or take) and it has served my Q6600 very very well. Now I have an i5 2500K on its way and I am wondering if this cooler will work with the new i5.

Not that buying a new cooler is a huge deal but it would really be nice to be able to put this great cooler to use.

They make brackets for it. Newer versions of the Dark Knight come with this, so if you want to sell your current one and rebuy it, the small loss shouldn't be much, and it may help your old stuff move.

I have a Xigmatek HDT s1283 (pretty much the same thing), and it used push pins for LGA 775 at the time. Later they made a LGA 775 bracket, which I got separately, then later ones for LGA 1366 and LGA 1156 (LGA 1155 uses the same mounting support as LGA 1156). They basically kept adding and then later including brackets with it.

My Dark Knight came with the retention bracket but since it is 2years old I assume it is not the same as the one needed for LGA1155?

Which bracket? If it's for LGA 1156, it is compatible. As I said, LGA 1155 and LGA 1156 use the same mounting brackets.

Well it is on an LGA775 right now so I am guessing it is not 1156.

No big deal. Thanks for the info!

Had the same issue with another board, will work with retention/bracket from Xiggy via newegg. I believe its $10 shipped.

The LGA 775 bracket definitely won't, no, but does it have the LGA 1156 bracket?

If so, that will work.

If not, you can either buy the bracket separately (as was said, it's ~$10), or sell the heatsink to add interest/return on your current parts (if you're selling them?) and buy the recent Dark Knight which has the bracket included.
