6950 CF questions

Thread Starter
my current card doesn't have dual-bios, so I never tried unlocking, I'm probably going to get the sapphire dirt3 edition for the CF, and it will be the primary card

now if it unlocks with the bios switch, great since theres lots of games I play that still only need just 1 6950

1)can I disable the CF at will from CCC without having to restart the PC, so that for easy to run games I don't need to waste the 2nd cards lifespan for nothing, I hope so cause few games need CF yet

2)any one have any issues from running CF with only 1 unlocked, I know it won't increase perfromance then, but does it cause any bad "confusion" in the cards

3)what does the 2nd card do when CF is disabled, what happens to its power usage, is it at idle, or does it basically turn off

4)and with shader unlocking, has anyonbe had issues yet, I mean after all 6970 has 6+8pin vs 6+6pin on 6950

yes you can disable CF right from CCC but in my experience, it's best to reboot after doing so. I've got a couple BSOD and crashes by enabling CF and launching a game shortly after.

1) yes you can.
2) no. I did this for a little bit with my Toxic card. Never really matter. It would only perform as a 6950CF thought
3)I have seen my second card go into what I call "do nothing mode" 0 fan useage, and no speed results from MSI afterburner. I dont know if that is correct, but I am happy with it.
4)not really. But there is a reason the 6970 is 8+6. As with all overclocking and unlocking you are taking a long term risk. with the repercussions just being guess work at this stage of the game.
