intel e5200 bottlenecking a 560TI?

Thread Starter
So I was wondering if my e5200 at 4.0ghz is bottlenecking my 560TI.

This is suppose to be better than the 5870 which my friend has and hes getting 60fps in bf3 and I'm getting 50-20. Hes running his screen at 1080P. I'm running my screen at 1280x1024...

How is that possible?

I would say yes, though that 4ghz is pretty crazy. I couldn't give a for sure answer, but with that comparison I would say yes. Is your graphics card maxed when you're playing the game? If it isn't or at least relatively close then your cpu is most likely bottlenecking.

Does your friend have the same processor at the same clocks?

[EDIT] Also, lower resolutions put more strain on the CPU and lighten the load on the GPU.

He has a i7-870. That's why I asked. In benchmarks the 1100T beats the 870. So thats why I ask.

yes definetely. at 1024*768 High preset my FPS drops to 40ish during 64 player matches. obvious culprit is the CPU, 95% usage while GPU stays at 75%.

if you want to be 100% sure run some usage-monitoring programs as you play games.

Me and a friend were arguing about something similar the other day. I would say yes, you are most likely being bottlenecked by your cpu, I'd suggest an upgrade. And hell, if not for the game, for the performance boost in almost everything else? biggrin.gif
