30 seconds POST screen before windows loading?

Thread Starter
The initial start-up screen (press 4 for unlock, del for setup/post message) hangs for 30 seconds before it continues to boot. I have NO idea why this happened. It was fine until I had a system repair loop.

I reformated and reinstalled windows but it is still giving me a long delay before system boot. This didnt happen before.

After the 30 second delay, everything else is normal. The ASUS ROG screen flashes, then windows starts up everything loads up fine (and rather quickly)

I'm a newb trying to learn, does anyone know why this happened and how I can fix it?

Nope, the only thing attached is the keyboard (ps2) and the mouse (USB Razer DA). I will try unhooking everything and starting up

Welcome to OCN!

Try going into your BIOS and look if there is a "wait for error delay or wait for key press delay" set to something like 5-10 sec. Also, check if there is an option for Quick Boot or Quiet Boot.

I had a Sabertooth P67 (2600k / GTX580 DCII) rig and it had long bios post times as well, until I went into the BIOS and changed these settings and also changed it to not show the ASUS Logo and instead "Keep Current" so it only displays an American Megatrends post screen that goes by quick.

I unplugged all my USBs (webcam, mouse and printer), restarted and VOILA, it was lightning fast again. It installed all the windows updates, then i plugged everything back in and still no problems

thanks for the tip!

Why would USB devices cause a lag like that?

I forgot the reason, but i think it is the system is trying to recognize what it is and gets stuck or something.
