ssd and windows 7

Thread Starter
Ok so the version of windows 7 we have is the home premium family upgrade and since we had already used the family pack three times one on my computer already but i upgraded it from 32 bit to 64 bit and then on my uncles two computers so to get 64 bit i called Microsoft and got a new authentication key so currently i have windows 7 64 bit on a regular 7200 rpm hard drive. I had already up graded to 7 from vista. so the way i installed windows 7 64 bit prior to buying a ssd was i installed windows xp (auto run from my uncle from his work) on a new hard drive and then upgraded to 7 after xp was running smoothly so earlier today i tried to do the same with the SSD. i had already changed everything in bios and the drives firmware is up-to date and when i went to install XP it blue screened right after loading the files from the CD right at the beginning. so right now I'm kinda lost as to what to do i have the i think its starter version or whatever its called of vista should i install that then upgrade to 7 as i did with XP and 7 on a regular hard drive?

Hard to make out exactly what you are asking, but I think it has something to do with needing AHCI for the SSD. Why are you upgrading for one thing? You can't upgrade XP to windows 7. You have to do a clean install.

i had 32 bit windows 7 on a hard drive then i bought a bigger hard drive and installed xp and used the upgrade on it because the product key only works for an upgrade. so that was to install 64 bit windows 7 and now i want to do the same to my new ssd but i dont know how should i install the starter version of vista and then upgrade it to 7?

Ok, so i still don't understand clearly.

Can you just state:
  1. What you have an issue with with the on PC (blue screen)
  2. The os you are in stalling on the SSD on that PC (XP?)
  3. What you plan on doing. (XP temporary, then windows 7? Or vista then 7?)
  4. Overview of extra info you think we should know about. (IDK)

Sorry, but I am tired and your statements aren't making much sense

Please use the #'s in your response.

Just put in the Window 7 CD and try using the clean install option (should be under advance I think), and see if that works. It should work.

The Windows 7 that came with the Ultimate steal deal for university students was also an upgrade version. And a lot of people didn't have vista so they just used the clean install option.
