once i install windows 7, what drivers do i need to update?

mobo? cpu, vid card etc?

should i use the windows update feature and update drivers that way, or go to the asus website etc and download the drivers from there instead?

anything else i should know of after im done the typical windows 7 install/update?

Go to the asus website and download the drivers for your board specifically. Next download your video drivers. Follow that up with all of your windows updates.

Then you should be good.

Use the install disk that came with your mobo to setup the chipset (motherboard) and ethernet drivers.

For your video card, go to nvidia.com and download the latest driver from there.

After that let windows update do its thing.

EDIT:

For safety, sure unplug your second HDD. Once you have WIn 7 installed and updates, shut down your computer, plug the second HDD in, and restart.

After the install I assume you can plug it in whenever and Windows will recognize it. You can save yourself some time and just figure out which hard drive is which so you don't have to go through the effort of unplugging everything and plugging it back in.

One more question. My mono is the p6t deluxe v2. On the driver disc it says 'with vista updates'. This means the driver disc was made pre win 7.

Should i use this driver disc or find the newest win 7 version of my mobo driver online and install that?

No, if I remember right Windows 7 is build on the same kernel as Windows Vista. The drivers should work (I have never had problems using Vista drivers - Windows 7 x64).

I am pretty sure windows 7 will recognize your mother board and give you the correct drivers. Considering that X58 was a established chipset when 7 was released you really shouldn't have any issues. The OS should detect everything and install your network driver (aka ethernet port). You will need internet connectivity to update the board once it finishes the install

This is the process I go through when I install Windows 7 on new computers:

Install Intel INF Driver

Download and install Intel AHCI driver

Download and install latest video card driver from either nVidia or ATI

Download the latest networkand audio driver from Realtek.

Restart as needed. Run Windows update. Then install necessary programs to get you to date and for the love Mary, Peter, and the dude on the grassy knoll download firefox or chrome; avoid IE like the plague and install MSFT security essentials or a similar Antivirus program.

Keep in mind that the great thing about Windows is that it just works. If your board was made for Vista 8 times out of 10, Windows 7 has all the functionality for the board baked into the OS drivers.

Hopes that helps.
