Need some nice headphones for gaming ~$150

I listen to a lot of music, but I also play a lot of games. If I had to balance it out, its around 70% gaming and 30% music.

I absolutely love my AD700's but I think I want to upgrade to something with a little more bass, but something that still has a wide soundstage for gaming.

I would prefer closed headphones because the less of my GPU fan I hear the better. Also, they shouldn't leak any sound.

My budget is $150 but I would really like to keep it under $120 since high school seniors without jobs aren't very wealthy

I already have a microphone.

What would you guys recommend?

Very difficult combination to get (Wide soundstage + Closed)...
Maybe take a look at the Audio-Technica ATH-M50, they appealed to me (I also wanted something similar to your description) so you might like them too. They are $170 in Australia so they'll most likely be cheaper in America, at around the $150 mark.

Something with a little more bass. Maybe the JVC series.

The Ultrasone Pro 550s would be a good can to consider. Good bass, good airy soundstage for a closed can headphone.

JVC's leak a bit. They're more half open cans. M50 would be one of the most horrific suggestions that could be given in this thread. They have absolutely no sound stage whatsoever and are horrific for gaming.

Unless you can find them used or refurbed the A900s are out of your price range by 50 dollars. Their mids are more recessed than the A700s, but their isolation is fantastic.

The A700s leak too much to be really considered imo.

The DT770s leak a little, but not that much. I know you can find those for 160 new shipped.

Do the Pro 550's leak any noise at all?

Also, what is the bass like on them? Do they have deeper bass than the ad700?

The pro 550s would be good for your price range. They do have good bass. I cant say if they are better than the ad700 though as ive never had a chance to listen to them.
The 550s can be had on amazon now for a little over 150.

If you dont mind buying used you should check out the classifieds over on head-fi.org
You can find some really good deals there.

Let us know what you pick!

I have the turtle beach x31 and they have decent bass but they eat batteries like it's a full time job. But besides that they are nice. Plus if you are not using the mic you can go wireless.

You're like, the only person I've seen on the internet to dislike the M50s though. They're like so highly regarded everywhere I go, even here and on Head-fi as well. Am I missing something? :<

Small amount, but almost every headphone will leak a tiny amount. I don't think it's at all a deal breaker. Depends on the volume listened to as well.

The Pro 550s have infinitely better bass than the AD700s. The Ad700s on a scale of 1-100 have like 2 bass.

The Pro 550s have upwards of 80 probably.

They were fine at 100 dollars.

Since then the M50s have been jacked up to 160. There's no way in HELL I would pay that much for M50s. On top of that people use M50s for all the wrong reasons, it's staggering. Gaming on M50s? C'mon. Use them for their intended purpose, bassy music.

Here's my problem with them. I see no reason to buy them really when there are so many other alternatives on the market that do it better. Want more bass? Ultrasone 580s. Want sound stage with your gaming+ bass? Ultrasone Pro 550. Want a cheaper headphone that after modification dishes out the same amount of bass without a lot of the issues the M50 has? SR850.

Just don't really see a reason to buy the M50s. You better want bass and looks and have some kind of loyalty to Audio Technica. Otherwise, I'm not interested.
