Looking for a good, cheap dvd-r drive..

Thread Starter
any reocmendations for a good, cheap cdrom/dvd-r drive?

i noticed the one i currently have uses a big thick ribbon, and was hoping for a drive that has less cables (like my friends) so it looks neater inside the system..

any recomendations?

Yea, SATA drives are the standard now. Just about any will do, Asus and Lite-on make nice ones, just don't pay more than $20 shipped for one as they are all exactly the same.

Yea, avoid the Sony ones... Opti-arcs suck.

Yes, as in...

Buy this:
ASUS DVD-RW

and not this:
Sony Optiarc DVD-RW

The Sony are absolute crap. The ASUS one is the most bought DVD-RW on Newegg, and my experience has been perfect with the 30 or so I've used for personal and customer builds.

i havent tried any asus drives yet, but lighton/lg tend to be noisy when reading/burning
i like samsungs, they idle quicker and dont make as much noise when spinning full speed

or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151243

either is $22 shipped

first make sure your board has an open sata port, and you will need a cable with oem drives
