Help! First time build, can't pick out a case.

Hey guys, so this is my first build for a rig.

I've been looking at cases, and I'm completely clueless with all the options. I originally picked out the HAF 922, but I'm starting to think I should change it out for a full-size so I have more room. I mean a mid-size is good and all, but do you guys think I should get a full-size instead so I have room for expansions, heatsinks, and what-not?

I've been looking at the 922 for mid-size, HAF X, HAF 932, NZXT Phantom, AZZA Hurrican 2000, Rosewill THOR V2, AZZA Solano 1000, and more. There's just so many cases, let alone manufacturers!

For a first build, maybe the CM 922 is big enough though? I'm just not sure. What do you guys think? I wanted to keep it around 100, but looking at things like the Phantom it might be worth going over a bit more.

Any advice highly appreciated, thanks guys.

Well 922 is good option. Should have plenty of room.

I love my HAF X, but you said it seems to expensive.

Then there's the NZXT Phantom which always gets recommended. I like the looks of it a lot, and the airflow should be top notch considering the fact that you can put up to seven fans in it (some of them 200mm fans ).

And then there's the Rosewill THOR V2.
I was just helping someone decide about cases a second ago and I found

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4648/r...-and-silence/7
http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=5

All of those sites saying (very) good things about it.
Being a full tower at that price also makes it a steal. Go for it.

Oh, and just because it's your first build doesn't mean you have to go for a mid-tower ATX. If you ever wanted to upgrade the internals, but still liked the case you wouldn't have to worry about room with a full-tower ATX.

There's the thread I was talking about. That guy seems picky. Maybe you want to discuss it with him, as well?

Best of luck

Here are some great cases around $100, all of which I highly recommend. I have made builds for people using most of these and they are phenomenal cases, and have a fair amount of room inside to work with (but unfortunately, the mother board tray is not removable). Bonus points if anyone understands the reference!

Haha that's a lot of cases. I appreciate it though, I'll look em over. I see that you have the 922 as one of them, how do you suggest that for a first time build with the following components:

ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner
Western Digital Caviar Green 750GB IntelliPower SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" HDD
PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W High Performance 80PLUS Silver
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 ATX Intel Motherboard
EVGA GeForce GTX 570 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost)
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212

And I am thinking about doing liquid cooling, not sure. Never done it before so skeptical.

*Edit* This doesn't have to relate specifically to the 922, which case would you recommend out of those 5 for my uses? I don't really do LAN, so I don't need a 100% mobile case

I actually hadn't thought of this yet, but the Corsair Carbide series (the 400R/500R) both look really nice and have gotten good reviews so far. I believe the 400R hovers right around $100 and the 500R is about $130.

Just some more options. After all of the cases we've given you, it really comes down more to personal preference than anything.
Best of luck

Really nice case IMO, I'd get it if I wasn't already getting a 650D.

For your uses I would go with the 690 II or the 400R.

I just built a new family rig with the HAF 922 and would highly recommend this unit as a mid-tower/mid-priced case. Sturdy construction, excellent cable management and lots of air flow. I would have liked a front USB 3.0 port but there are plenty of expansion slots for a front panel hub. This is my 2nd CM case and I'm very pleased with their products. My Hyper 212 EVO fits over the CPU with plenty room to spare.
