i opened up cpuz and realized that my voltage was pretty high while under a load. i am not overclocking or anything. i have read that 1.24 volts is high. and i also have a question about my qpi settings. what is the qpi voltage?

1.24v takes me at 3.9Ghz with hyperthreading on. So technically it's fairly high. Realistically I don't see a problem with it though. Though if I'm at stock I push the voltage back to 1.1v or something like that.

QPI voltage is something you change depending the speed of your BCLK and memory speed/timings. The higher the speed of either of those, the more QPI voltage you will need probably. But too high could cause instability.

QPI voltage is the IMC voltage. The memory controller. For the i7 9xx series, you want to keep it 1.375 or below. Now this depends on your vdimm (ram voltage) QPI voltage needs to be within .5 within your vdimm so if your vdimm is 1.65, then QPI needs to be at least 1.15, but I think the minimum for the motherboards are 1.2. So that'ts fine. This does create some heat, but not as much as vcore.

1.24 is not high, but it depends on your overclock.

What he said =]

EDIT:

what you could try is when ur at stock is to lower ur cpu voltage as low as possible as i can get mine to run on 1.07v on stock speeds instead of the 1.24

well its only when its under a load. and i just check my bios and its set for 1.18 and obviously its not at that. is it because of turbo boost or something? i put my computer in power options to high performance to keep it at a constant load to see.

if he turns off turbo he will not get 3.2 Ghz load but only 3.0
My i7950 did stock settings (3.2Ghz) @ 1.075 ROCK SOLID
seeing as how u have only 3 dimms also and have up to a 24 multi to play with than ur qpi shouldnt need to be very high.
i have mine at 1.331 24x167 4.0 ht on and i also have 6 dimms + overclocked ram
