Problems with AMD motherboard

Hi guys,

My mum's PC's been having some trouble and been trying to troubleshoot the issue.

She complains that the processor fan gets really loud and then the PC will shut itself off.

I have been looking at the PC and basically, the CPU is running fine, it's never getting hot at all. I noticed one big problem though, the powersupply's +12V rail is supplying only +10 and the +3.3V only +2.0. So my theory is that when the processor becomes stressed and the fan heats up, the PSU cannot provide enough power and thus shuts down. I am currently testing with P95 for about 20 mins and it hasn't shut off, the CPU is at 65 degrees and the rails are remaining stable.

Any theories/feedback would be appreciated

The system specs are:

AMD Phenom X4 9100e
1.8GHz, 9x200, HT 1600MHz

Acer WMCP78M
nForce 720A

4GB DDR2 5/5/5/18/24 2T
NB Freq. 1600MHz

Thanks,
_____________

40 mins into a P95 Large FFT stress test and all voltages and temperatures remaining stable. Really struggling to find problems with the PC atm.

It's perhaps worth noting that the socket the PC is plugged into has many other plugs in it (there is an extension cable with around 6 plugs) but not high-usage appliances - it's speakers, router, telephone, PC monitor, PC proper, etc. Could the wall socket be overloaded?

edit: also, the only difference that I have when running it to her is that I have taken the side of the case off.

I would say a Temp problem you made it cooler by taking the side panel off and you mum might be using it when it is hotter in the room, If it was the power Socket it would do it with the panel off or on. Try cleaning the heatsink up putting on some new TIM and closeing it back up let your mum us it for a few days and see if the problem returns. Also the +12V rail at +10 could be just a bad cheap sensor on the motherboard, what board is it?

Thanks for your reply. I am convinced it is not the CPU as I have stress tested it for an hour and it never went above 65 degrees, mostly stayed around 63. Even with the side back on.

Also your point on the motherboard may be valid. As listed above, it's Acer WMCP78M.
