Should I get 8gb DDR2? - Page 2

It will effect your max overclock or have a chance to make it less stable anyways, but if you're just going for a kinda mid range nothing over the top overclock, it'll be fine.

40 bucks for 4gb really isn't that bad. Last summer I spent 100 bucks for 2x2GB 800mhz OCZ Platinum : /

Windows 7 64 bit is quite the resource hog, 4 GB is not enough IMO. I did it for a little while there and never again. Made multitasking a nightmare. Made my i7 feel like a computer from 2001.

Also for everyone else, yes it is 40$ for 4gb in addition to my 4gb already for a total of 8gb.

Another question though, could having 4 sticks effect affect my overclock?
Yes it can since your memory controller has to work harder.

I never really overclocked my ram though. Would this mean I would have to lower my FSB?

Another thing to remember is right now memory prices are low for the time being while hard drives have gone higher then a kite becuase of the floods in Asia.So Ya I would jump on them.A good deal is a good deal golden rule never pass it up when you have the money.

I disagree. If the upgrade is planned for next summer, that's ~3/4 of a year away. $40 is not much, especially if he will make use of it.

If your FSB is at 415MHz, chances are your RAM is at least running there now, which is a slight overclock over the rated 800MHz. I doubt any but the most poor 800MHz RAM won't run 830MHz.

What Corsair RAM is that? I have two kits of these, and the RAM tops out at ~960MHz (480MHz DDR) for me. It depends on what stuff you have now, what you'll get, and how they'll play together.

This right here is the ram deal.

So what I will end up with is two sets of them. My dad who ended up needing ram too ordered two, so he will get my current 4gb kit so that I will have all the same ram.

Also your correct my ram is at 415 so it isn't overclocked much. I just could never find a stable overclock. I also don't see the impact to be big enough to overclock them higher.

I don't see myself upgrading to a new platform till at least next summer. Would this be a good deal to hold me off? BF3 is hungry for more ram than my current 4gb.
I upgraded to 8gb ram a week ago after running ripjaws-x 4 gb. Noticed an immediate difference. No more slow performance messages, freezing, and I can alt-tab easily now..something that I was unable to do without crashing the game before.

Don't know if this was the experience for most people. But it was for me.

edit: I also paid $43 after newcustomer10 code for the current set and after throwing a $3 fan splitter to get it over $50. Get it! Its dirt cheap!

Wow I actually do get those annoying slow performance issue things. It would minimize my games all the time and I would be like why are you telling me this computer and ignore it.

Now that I think of it the 4gb of ram is probably the issue. Especially with BF3 and with some games that I play in windowed fullscreen with other programs in the background. I think were getting to the point now where more than 4gb of ram really is needed and where 4gb just wont cut it in most heavy gaming situations.

I probably don't have enough room for a fan on my ram though due to my heat sync.
