Buying Phone off Ebay

I am planning to buy a phone off ebay, to my understanding I need to buy an unlocked phone and bring it to the verizon store and have them put their 'chip' into it and then register it with their network?

yeah, something like that. Its cheaper if you buy that phone with the service with a contract, isnt it?

and watch out, some phones that are ment that are made or serviced in a diffrent continent will give you poorer reception, thats what i learned from my other phone. (K750i)

nah phones dont usually register, when you stick the phone in it will automatically detect, but you may need to contact you network and ask for settings to be sent for your internet, and picture messing 3g or any services the phone will use. but once you stick the chip in it should work for phone calls and sms messages. bare in mind though that if you buying from a different country there maybe problems as of all the different GSM types, make sure it works with your chip.

EDIT: you may need to register but you dont always need to. you only need to register the chip, if thats registered thats fine.

Yes, you need an unlocked phone. Also, ask for the serial on the phone as some phones on ebay have been reported as stolen and will no longer work when trying to be activated.

Umm no you dont need an unlocked phone for VZW. As you cant use any phone but VZW's. They only have there ESN's in there system and will not activate anything else. Also VZW does not use a "chip" aka sim card they are programmed into the phone itself.

so basically YOU ARE STUCK WITH VZW'S SELECTION

Ive bought all my verizon phones on ebay so I dont have to relist my 2 year agreement, You will need to purchase a verizon wireless compatable phone and then you can either activate it over the internet, phone, or go into the store for a 20 dollar fee, I activate them on the verizon website all you do is have to type the esn (on the back of the phone under the battery).
