A790GXH/128M + Phenom II X2 550BE No Post Screen! Help!

Hey guys, i just recently acquired:

Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition CPU
A790GXH/128M Mothboard

Hooked up 2GB of DDR2 1066 HyperX ram, 550w Thermaltake PS. Booted up and was getting nothing, just black screen (no signal). The motherboard is brand new (by the looks), but i thought it may need bios update, so i put in my old Athlon X2 6000+, fired up windows, and flashed it from 1.40 to 1.70. Still nothing, so i reset the Bios settings to factory defaults, still nothing.

I'm a little lost for ideas now, i know all other hardware is working fine and it must be the cpu, i'm not sure if their is any settings in the bios which i need to change in order to get it to work. I havent unlocked / oc'ed or anything, this is running straight out of the box. is my CPU dead or am i missing an important bios setting somewhere?

any suggestions / advice appreciated!

So, you're saying the board boots up with an older CPU, but nothing with the 550?

Reset the CMOS after a bios flash and plug in a speaker ( the little one that plugs into the pins around the front panel stuff )

It does say AM3 Ready, but doesn't say anything about Phenom IIs.

hi Speced, followed your advice, i dont know why it doesnt say phenomII in the overview specs, but its definatly listed in the Supported CPU list on the left.

I reflashed the Bios to 1.70 (latest version), rebooted and then shutdown. put the x2 550be in, reset the cmos from jumper, booted up, didnt work, removed battery for 2 mins, didnt work, removed 1 stick of ram and switch ram into different slots, didnt work.

i'm not getting any bleeps from the speaker, CPU fan turns on, CD-ROM drive has power and i believe the HD unit has power, but no bleeps from speaker and just black screen (no signial). still no post screen.

version 1.20 of the bios is suppose to support the x2 550BE, i cant imagion i have to change anything in the bios prior to putting the cpu in, in order to get it to work, and having re-flashed bios, and reset cmos, i'm running out of options. is their anything else i can try? or is this cpu dead in the water?

Put the known working CPU in, set the mutlipliers, vcore to the 550's stock and save it, switch to the 550 and try, the bios may be failing to set "auto" settings somehow. I've done that in a rig and it worked.
