Phenom II 940BE stuck at 3.4 stable - Page 2

If you had idle of 37 it's good. You can overclock till 60'C.. Dont go over it.
Now set the multiplier to 17.5x for 3.5GHz and set manually the voltage to 1.45v (because he is old chip likes more voltages don't worry about them) You have max voltage of 1.55v for 7/24 usage. Increase CPU NB to 12-13x multiplier and you'll get 2400~2600 NB (NB link increases the performance a lot more). Then give him 1.3v to CPU NB. I think you are done. When you make this things just report us and we will tell you to go or stay on this.

i did what you said and now its at 62c, im gonna lower it again
post #13 of 19
If you got it on 62'C drop some voltages till you get the minimum stable voltage.

you want to keep temps under 55C. phenoms overclock best when they run cool. also 1.4125 v for 3.4 seems fine. i'm running my 3.6 at stock voltage(1.425). each subsequent 200mhz requires + 0.25v.

the temp at 1.4375 still got over 60c then i lowered the voltage to 1.420, but i got BSOD, seconds into prime95

I feel like i might have done something wrong, cause im getting temps around 61 on 1.412 voltage...

im going to bed in a second, but right now i set it to x16.5-3300Mhz at stock Voltage (1.35) and the temps are 58-59 Im not sure what the problem is but im gonna check my hardware in the morning.

Your CPU uses a lot more voltages at stock (that means you cannot overclock with low voltages)

Okay, so what does that mean? Sry for the newb questions, im new to AMD Overclocking, you prolly noticed.

i may have found the problem. The airflow in my case is horrible, the CPU cooler Fan is faced towards the PSU fan and there is no fan blowing air in the case, only one on the back. i tried plugging in another fan so it blows air in from the front, but my case doesn't have a place for it, so i placed it facing in towards the side of the case, and leaving the side panel off. it lowered the temps 4-6c so i assume that is the problem. (ill see if i can post a pic when i get home, just so you can laugh more at me for my obvious mistake )
I got my hands on a Cooler Master Elite 430, i dunno if you know the case but there is 2 places for fans on top and 1 installed fan in the front, this way i can install a 120mm fan on the top and get a proper Airflow.

I hope this makes sense, ill try and explain it more simply if no one understands.

ill update tonight or tomorrow

phenoms overclock well at low temps. i'm sure you could do much better with an improved cooler.
