After opening Opera, Firefox, Libre Writer the difference grows and can reach 20MB.
What I've done is take a full Mint installation and convert one to XFCE and another to LXDE to keep it fair but even with a basic LXDE installation I find XFCE being lighter.
I hope Mint 12 comes with ARM support, would be fantastic, as Mint 12 looks great.
I boot LXDE with almost 87MB's of RAM.
That's with some things also running at boot.
Google "XFCE vs LXDE" and you'll find many people saying that LXDE is lighter.
Mint LXDE boots a ton of crap that doesn't need to boot. Mint Backup, Mint Updater, Mint etc etc. Disable it and see how much lighter it is.
