looking for advice on sapphire 6950 problem

Well, I'm in a bit of a pickle so I decided to turn to you all for help. I have had a reference sapphire hd 6950 since this January. So far it was been really great and I have been completely satisfied. However, I have been having a recent problem with the fan. It has been occasionally producing a ticking noise that ranges from more of a vibrating noise to an audible click.

I have never modified or taken off the hsf/fan and I have already tried removing dust from the card (without opening it up). The only thing that fixes it is if I put my finger on the fan and press up slightly. That seems to get it back in the right rotation for a while, but it will eventually go back to making the noise in anywhere from 2 to 24 hours. My temperatures never really go up, but the noise is awful..I am by no means an expert but it seems like a bearing is going out or something.

I'm still under warranty from sapphire, and I purchased from newegg. Should I be looking into a support ticket/ RMA? I would do so without hesitating, but I really need my computer for school, and finals are coming up. I'm not really sure what I would do as far as a temporary replacement card (that I could possibly return and get my $$ back later?).

As other alternatives should I be looking into taking off the hsf/fan and trying to fix it myself? Or should I scrap both of those options and just get an accelero plus extreme II?

I know these questions are noob, but I've only ever had to RMA ram before so I don't really know what I should do..Thanks for the help.

I honestly would just RMA at this point. If you can live without your computer for a lil while then its a definite. I'm not a huge fan of 3rd party GPU coolers unless its a w/b.

The fan bearing is going out, taking the HSF apart is not going to fix it.

Can you do an advance RMA?

I would just say get the accelero plus Im ordering one in the next couple of days because my fan has started to do the same thing granted i run it at 40% all the time so my temps stay cool while folding. but all an RMA will do is replace it with one that might do the same thing a few months down the road.

I don't think sapphire has any kind of advance rma or if they do, I didn't sign up for it. But I will definitely think over your input. I will probably send a ticket to see what they say about it and try to get the ball rolling. Thanks very much.
