overclock3d : d14 vs silver arrow test???

what do you guys think about this test. http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/c...octua_nh-d14/2

silver arrow and d14 are pretty much equal until he bumps the voltage from 1.35-->1.45. @1.45v the d14 beats the silver arrow by 11 degrees+

seems kinda fishy to me. how can the temps change so suddenly. he should have shown results for voltages between 1.35 and 1.45 to show the transition. maybe it has to do with 4 heatpipes on the silverarrow vs 6 on the d14?? maybe the heat pipe fluid in the silver arrow evaporates at a lower temperature?

the reason why i am asking this is because I am not sure which one of these coolers to buy. I was leaning towards the silver arrow (lighter and quieter) but now i am confused.

also: overclock3d test is not consistent with xbitlabs test in terms of voltage (both running at 1.45v) but inconsistent in absolute temp (88 vs 81 on d14 @1.45v) http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coo...w_5.html#sect0

That review is old and we talked about it a lot here when it first came out. It's obvious that something went wrong with the way he installed the Silver Arrow for it to fail the final test. Plenty of people have higher clocks than that and the Silver Arrow does it's job well

both are very good coolers and its very embarrassing for the tester if he doesn't realized that something went wrong (tim, mounting pressure or whatever)

clocks dont really matter, because you might just running cool enough for the silver arrow to remain in its comfort zone (good case/low cpu load). It is well known the silver arrow cools well at <80. maybe after you go past 80 degrees the heatpipe fluid boils and the silver arrow can no longer cool effectively and it jumps up to 100 degrees.

Im just speculating here . I would really like to know how the silver arrow performs in the 80-100 degrees range. If he had installed it incorrectly, im pretty sure the lower temp/voltage performance should have been negatively affected to some degree.

Others have had hot chips go way higher with the SA. What runs through my mind about that review is a paraphrase of an old Neil Young song: "Useles, useless useless useless."
