Actually Pentium Ds have two cores just like Core 2 Duo. It's Pentium 4s that have only one core. Maybe your thinking of the netburst based Celeron Ds which only have one core. The performance increase came from the huge jump in IPC and a much more efficient architecture, among other things.

I just updated the BIOS on my mobo so i can just drop either one in and go. I'm really tempted to get the q6600, its 2 more cores for $25 more. They are both only 2.4ghz. Do you think either one can handle mw3 with my 8800gt at 1280x720?
At those prices go for the Q6600. It will last longer, even if it will only be used by your daughter.
