Cosmos S [Liquid Cooling|Paint mod|Cable management]

Hi guys and gals,

I always promised myself I'd do a work log of my intended case mod so I am finally making the time and effort despite a busy schedule of studying, a limited budget and poor arsenal of tools.

This is either gonna be decent...or epic fail but I hope you enjoy following and keep the comments/questions/advice flowing.

BTW I will be doing everything with one hand. Not really a relevant detail, but to those who think you can't handle something like a case mod due to a "limitation" then you might want to reconsider, because building PC's with one hand is not the easiest thing...but it's not impossible either.

So here goes the first round of pics:

The parts I received after my old LGA775 build died

Unboxed motherboard

Nice colour scheme I think

The almighty Cosmos S

Another shot

Rust...yuck

Up here is pretty nasty looking

The paint peeled...had this case for about 2 years now

Starting to disassemble

Fitting up some hollow aluminium sections for cable management

This is what the material looks like under the mask....just minus that red-marked plastic covering

Going to anchor the hollow section to the case with a screw here and cutout that blue-marked bit you see there by the hole

The two sections will be permanently attached with angled aluminium pieces

Well I would've used some metal sheets and bent them into "cable hiders" if I could've gotten any but I guess I have to work with what's available to me right.

The Plan:

-Paint the interior black
-Improve the cable management
-Install a liquid cooling system for the i5 2500K
-MAYBE add a unique touch to the interior with my spray painting skills (see below)

Initially I had made this stupid siggy looking banner to generate interest in my build but I'm not sure if I will do the digi camo....I won't do it to any part of the exterior, but instead shake things up a bit and try incorporating it into the interior design of the mod.....We'll see

More pics will be on the way soon. Thanks for watching and thanks for the support!

Certainly worth the effort to fix up that Cosmos.
Looking forward to this build

So I changed my mind about the "cable hider" I found this method to be neater bsed on the materials I'm using. The challenge faced here would be getting all this lined up and joined so it stays in line.

Held it in place and carefully placed it in this position for marking. Will be joining these two with aluminium angles.

Set the angle in place using masking tape. Preparing to drill.

Got my drill and little container where I keep some of the screws for the case and my drill bits.

Taking the drill to the angle. Had to go at an angle but I learned eventually that this approach was not suitable for the length of bit used.

This screw appeared most suitable

and another...

One side complete

Drilling the other side

Angle complete

Seeing if everything lines up

Luckily I got the PSU to be on level with that top surface there

This part seemed most daunting. I expected this angle to wreak havoc with all the other joint work..thus causing misalignment

Duct tape

...and I was right

..and here too. Notice the gap between the two. Not near perpendicular.

There it is all screwed in and causing the opposing force I expected.

So I flipped her on the side and marked a drill spot for an anchor screw.

...but not before duct taping anything in place so it all stays put.

Successfully drilled and screwed. It did not completely alleviate the gaps so I may have to live with it but I won't give up just yet. Done for the day.....

...but before I go, see those risers?

Yup, they're doubled. My plan is to use these to mount a cover plate. I have one on hand but I may need to get another more suitable one because it doesn't look too neat. But I still test-fitted and drilled the holes.

It's literally rough around the edges, but I'm sure I can find a better solution. This image is just to show you what I intend on doing. If I can get my hand on some perspex, I might use that instead...tint and add graphics to it....remember that digital camo idea I had?
