It's about access times, they are virtually nil. Think of it like lag on your internet connection; it doesn't matter how much bandwidth you have if you have high latency.

HDD to SSD is by far the greatest performance upgrade anyone can make. Like, by FAR.

My PC is lightning to use, everybody that ever uses it comments on it. The second the desktop appears you're ready to go.. Firefox, Office, whatever, everything pops up instantly.. and it's because of the SSD.

You could be using an extreme series i7 overclocked to the max, have 24GBs of whatever the fastest DDR3 spec is at the moment, but if you're only running HDDs then my mid-range two year old rig with a 60GB SSD is going to piss all over yours in general usage. I've had the SSD for a year now and noticed no "degredation" whatsoever.

What's wrong with the prices considering the amount of money you've already spent on every other component? As for degredation, whatever, you're seriously hindering your rig by not adding an SSD...

Oh the ignorance of this guy

I have a Vertex Le for 2 years, and speed hasn't degradated yet,the SSD is still running 100% percent as a champ.

As others have said, this could be the turn to drop the prices of current mainstream SSDs to closer to mech HDD prices. Which I feel would be great for the market. Plus, if OCZ gets these out soon enough, could they fill the hole in the market with the flooding in the far east that is going to hurt mech HDD production?

As for some people talking about degredation; I myself have no degradation on my Vertex2, actually have gotten better and better speeds as I have gotten better sata controller chips. Currently my SB850 on my UD7 has my Vertex2 running faster than original spec speeds.

In conclusion, if OCZ prices and markets these right, could fill a nice gap in the market that will be here now for a few months. Plus could drive the prices of current SSDs down.

I just want cheaper SSDs, they are fast, they last long enough for me, they are just at this point too expensive. So this news makes me happy.

A cheap SSD will be amazing for people with z68 boards. Just plug the thing in, turn on the intel speed thingy that uses it to speed boost your HDD, and rule.

They only need to push it below $0.5/GB and ssd will become mainstream.

Exactly. Give me a 250GB 100mb SSD that can be abused on writes and make it $120

Downside is OCZ makes trash SSDs compared to Intel so the fail rates on the TLC drives will be insane I bet. I bought a 90GB Agility and ended up losing 30GBs before install to keep performance on the drive.
