HyperX T1 not so overclocking, help?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Today, I bought the T1 CL9 @ 1600 mhz 8 GB ram kit.

My mobo: Gigabyte-870A-UD3
CPU: 1075T @ 3.75 ghz

Original ram:
4x2 gb hyperX blu ram @ 7-8-7-22-1T @ 1666 mhz, 1.62 V, Stable

New T1 ram:
2x 4 gb hyperX T1 ram @ 7-7-7-22-1T @ 1332 mhz, 1.64 V, Stable

Problem:
I cannot get the T1s timings down to my original blu timings and voltages.
In fact, I cannot hit 1666 mhz unless I am at CL9 @ 1.62 V

I realized that the advertised specs are CL 9 @ 1600 mhz, 1.65 V, but T1s are made for overclocking, so I was expecting at least hitting the original Blu timings.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rX,2907-7.html

Ram Sticks are in the blue sockets.

What could have possibly happened?
I might have to return these soon, cuz im losing performance.

Thank you!

hi idiota115,
your old ram were 2gb density.. 2gb density modules can have significantly tighter timings vs 4gb density.

Also Ic used in the new ram you have is probably psc, or hynix.. they are not going to like 7-8-7, 8-8-8, etc.. you have to let the second timing (tRCD) be greater than the first (cl) by 2 or 3.

with 1.65v, try 7-10-7 or 7-10-10 or 8-10-8 or 8-10-10..

where tRCD is always greater than cl by 2 or 3
also for amd nb is very important in performance.. so remember that lol

good luck

now, its running at 8-10-8, but the performance is a bit disappointing. Should I return these?

what are you running nb @?

try bumping it up and you should see performance increase

if not try overclocking frequency more.. they should scale @ 8-10-8 1800mhz or so
increase tRAS (last timing) as needed

Sorry, BSOD.

my NB is running at 2 Ghz @ 1.2V. From the sticky of the AMD memory forum, NB should be at 2 Ghz isnt it?

I tried a higher clock (2000 mhz), it didnt work so well. Do you think my mobo might be the cause? or just the sticks of ram i luckily bought?

Thank you for all your help btw.

did you take notice of what the bsod was? might need more volts to nb or memory controller... i haven't oc'd amd in so long so don't remember.. but 1.2v shouldn't be the limit.

I think everything you have is fine, just need more tweaking.

I didnt take notice of it. It just dumped its memory.

I read somewhere that 1.3 V might be the max. I have to look it up to be sure, dont want to fry my mobo

So basically, up the NB voltage? What should I do if that does not work?

do you have an option of increasing the memory controller voltage? i am full of intel jargon now so not sure what it's called on amd.. but it might need a bump since you are running fairly high clock and tight cl on ram

i dont believe i see something like that in my BIOS. but there is NB voltage setting.

Do some memory work better with certain CPU brands? I have looked at some review and benchmarks of the T1, and they were all done on intel platforms. it's prolly unlikely.

edit: yes there is.
VDDIO: This is the voltage used by the signals on the memory bus. JEDEC (the organization that standardizes memories) calls this SSTL (Stub Series Termination Logic) voltage. This is the famous “memory voltage” configuration that can be found under several different names such as “DIMM Voltage,” “DRAM Voltage,” “Memory Over Voltage,” “VDIMM Select,” “Memory Voltage,” “DDR PHY,” etc. The default value for this voltage is 1.8 V with DDR2 memories (SSTL_1.8) or 1.5 V with DDR3 memories (SSTL_1.5).

MEMVREF: This is the memory reference voltage, which “configures” both the CPU and the memory module with the voltage level that separates what is to be considered a “0” or a “1,” i.e., voltages found on the memory bus below MEMVREF are to be considered a “0,” and voltages above this level are to be considered a “1.” By default, this voltage level is half of VDDIO (a.k.a. 0.500x), but some motherboards allow you to change this ratio, usually through two options: “DRAM Ctrl Ref Voltage” (for the control lines from the memory bus; JEDEC’s official name for this voltage is VREFCA), and “DRAM Ctrl Data Ref Voltage” (for the data lines from the memory bus; JEDEC’s official name for this voltage is VREFDQ). These options are configured as a multiplier. For example, “0.395x” means that the reference voltage will be 0.395 times VDDIO.

holy crap. I need to find the latter in my BIOS. I dont remember ever seeing it, ever. perhaps i overlooked.

yep.. looking back at my old amd stuff.. your nb is low.. so don't think it's nb voltage..

it's memory controller voltage or just vcore.

95% chance tweaking one of the two or both will lead to stability
