SickleFlow 120mm Fans and Cooler Master Storm Scout

Thread Starter
I just purchased 2 SickleFlow fans for the window of my Storm Scout. These are very nice fans with good airflow and low noise but... the vents on the window plus the fans are creating a very irritating vacuum like whining sound. It's not the fans themselves but the combination of the window vents and the fans. Is there anyway to eliminate the god awful noise?

Get some sort of fan grommet or spacer and create a space in between the case and the fan. Thatll lessen the WHIZZZZ sound of the fan.

You could try this for each screw hole.

http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g47/...ets-Page1.html

Or you could try this as a direct overlap on top of the fan.

http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g47/...ers-Page1.html

Basically you are using these to create a space between the case/case panel and the fan. The close the fan is to the mesh or whatever the louder the noise is going to be.

I figured that was what you were talking about. Which would you choose? The washers or the rubber frames?

Would something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811996019) work well with my problem?

Yeah I guess so. As long as it creates a gap between the mounting surface and the fan you're fine.

Thanks for the advice. I think I may go with the rubber squares. Then again, I could probably just stop at Home Depot and find some rubber washers for cheap. Is this common with the Storm Scout case?

The grill like slots on the window of the CM Scout is somewhat of a design flaw ... if I were to put it that way. From what I've seen, people either change the entire plexi portion (it's pretty easy to do, just use a small flat head screwdriver and pop out the rivet like pieces) and put in a new panel and cut whatever size fan circle you want or cut out the slots themselves. The way the air hits them is what's causing the noise. I don't think rubber washers will help, that's usually for fan vibration noise, not air coming in or out.

I don't have the tools/materials to do that... I ordered these ( ). Hopefully those will help eliminate the noise...

Should I buy new grills/screens as well? Maybe that will help change the way the air is hitting the plastic vents on the side window.
