Hi im fairly new to overclocking and haven't even tried it. I have looked at the NVIDIA and AMD software. My processor on my laptop is Intel Core i5-2410M @ 2.30 GHz. How and how much can I overclock it to and just leave it on 24/7? and how much for just a few hours?

It's generally a bad idea to ever overclock a laptop CPU. They just don't have the BIOS and cooling needs to keep it stable and alive.

I agree, typically heat is what dooms processors to overclocking. As I'm sure you know your laptop gets really hot especially if it's a gaming laptop. You also have to be lucky and hope that the manufacturer didn't lock the BIOS to prevent OCing. Overall not many people will recommend it.

Yup, don't OC your laptop. You won't get any noticeable gain in performance and heat will be an issue.

Yea, you could with proprietary software, but it's really useless. The risks far outweigh any benefits. So as it has been said already, it's not recommended and you shouldn't do it.

No you can't overclock it even 1MHz !
I own a sandy bridge mobile CPU and it's impossible , I tried all software available ..
But Alienware can , it has options in BIOS that allows you OCing ..
EDIT : i5 2410M turbo boost up to 2.9GHz btw .
Good luck
