Making a HTPC, need suggestions.

As of right now I have my xbox 360 setup on my living room TV. I want to move it next to my computer so I can play games more, because my kids are always watching netflix. I don't want to buy another 360 because I don't want another monthly bill so I am leaning towards a HTPC.

I have these parts accumulated so far:
Pentium D 920
Crappy Intel 945chipset MB from an old oem
2x2GB Gskill DDR2 800 5-5-5-15
DVDRW drive (IDE ribbon lol)
Radeon HD 6850 1GB
Ugly pink case from my wife's old old old pc
Old loud stock fan for Cpu
Media center remote and IR sensor

I need a hard drive and psu to get her off the ground at least.

I know I know, some of these parts are just placeholders until I can upgrade them. The real question I have is my Cpu. Can a Pentium D 920 run a HTPC without any problems? It will be on 24/7 pretty much.

Since hard drive prices are ridiculous right now I was planning on picking one up at my local Worst Buy because surprisingly the are cheaper than Newegg right now.

This is the Psu I'm looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371029

Any advise is greatly appreciated. I am new to the whole HTPC business. I will be running Win 7 x64.

What kind of HTPC? Intel 945 is a very old IGPU (can't handle Bluray or 1080p). Should handle Netflix fine under 720p. Radeon HD6850 is overkill for HTPC setup. If no gaming sell it and get HD6450, HDD, and PSU out of it.

That PSU is fine. Once you have the money upgrade CPU/Mobo/RAM all together. Don't get another DDR2 RAM because it ain't worth it anymore.

PSU is good and CPU is fine.... D chips run hot so do you have a good silent coling system ?

sell the 6850 and get a low profile card like a 2650 or gt 430

Im sorry I should have clarified it a bit more. It's mainly going to be used for Netflix, DVDs, and Wow every once in a while. I would like to keep the 6850 just for that. I know this isn't the most ideal setup, but seeing as how I really need to get 4 things (HD, PSU, case and cpu fan) I'm hoping the crappy 920 will last for a little while. Heck I think the IGP is broken even. It never did work unless it had a discreet gpu.

Like hednik said, Pentium D 920 is going to produce a lot of heat. I don't think that stock fan is going to cut it. Cheapest and reliable HSF is Hyper 212+/EVO.

Would a hyper 212 be too big for a case like say this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811204039

If the Pentium is going to be a major pain to get setup because of cooling (and expensive) would I be better off going with an elcheapo AMD Cpu and board? I really want this pc to not give me any headaches because If I catch any crap from the wife or kids about downtime or annoyances from it I will be a sad panda

Okay, that case has HDD cage on top of the motherboard, meaning you are looking for a low profile cooler.

This one should work,

You might be better off buying a used SSD off the for sale forum, and even maybe a used hard drive.
