Beginning to OC

Thread Starter
So I just read the OC guide and on my first step I ran into my first dilemma in the AI tweeker. It gives me three options manual, auto, and D.O.H.P. D.O.H.P seems like the one to choose but I am sure that I am wrong. Another thing, my cpu vcore is at 1.4xxx on stock settings... is this normal?

lower your CPU v core, its a bit high for 3.2GHz. Try 1.35V or lower. And the reason you want to put AI tweeker on manual is so you can adjust the the Bus speed (CPU frequency) and memory frequency.

OK, will try it. After that just change the multiplier and the speed right?

that chip is fairly easy to OC. just use the multiplier. bump it to 4ghz. increase the voltage to 1.45-1.475v. voila you're done. and don't tell me you're on stock cooling

I'm on stock cooling. But I have two huge cpu fans that came with the case. What speed should I shoot for?

1.45V is a bit high for 4.0GHz. 1.38V - 1.4V will be more than enough.

@maximusn12
you really need a better cooler. you will see a big temp drop if you buy a better cooler.
also enable LLC in your BIOS.

what about for now? (just until I get a new cooler) I set it to 3.6... is that OK? Oh and can you recommend a good cooler?

sure why not 3.6 is ok.
i think 1.35V is good for 3.6GHz but just test it at that voltage and if your PC crashes try add little more voltage like 1.36V and so on.

you dont want to go above 1.45 - 1.48V on air, and you don't want your temps to go above 60C on your core temp or 70C on your CPU temp.

i think the H70 or H100 is good but they preform just like any air cooler. go to the air cooling section and check there. see some benchmarks and make up your mind.

[Added]
these coolers are good enough Noctua NH-D14, Cooler Master Hyper 212.

Thanks a lot bro. One last question what about the dram frequency? Auto or should I just try what works? Oh and by "cpu temp. not higher than 70c" you mean system temp, right?

1.38v-1.4v is too low for 4ghz imo. he should get it first stable at 4ghz it's a good way to start at 1.45v if he get's it stable then he can go from there and decrease the vcore

im talking about 12 hours prime stable and 50 runs IBT. this is just me though.
