Worth the upgrade? ( P5K to P5Q)

Thread Starter
Hey guys, i got my hands on a fairly old Pc ( Proc: Q6600, Mb: Asus p5k se, Gc: 8800gtx, Ram: corsair 4gb ddr2) and would like to know if i should go out of my way to get a P5q motherboard. Are the gains that high?

The proc revision is a G0 and hasn't been overclocked at all. Additionally i would like to get an Amd 6850 to go with it and that's the main reason i'm pondering on the upgrade. I've been searching all over the net and both motherboards seem to be good overclockers the only difference being the 2.0 pci-e lane. Bear in mind that a 5870 is bottlenecked by 1% on a 2.0 x8 pci-e lane so i don't really know what to do.

I'm putting my faith in you , i've been wondering around this forum for a few months and i have to say it's quite a wonderful place to be. Have a wonderful day/night ( first post YEAH!)

Well a P5Q is much better motherboard on the hardware stand point..

It has P45 chipset, ICH10R (supports RAID 0,1,5,10) and it has better 8 Phase CPU power delivery (P5K has 4 Phase power design)..

P5Q would be able to max out that Q6600 and with Load Line Calibration option ENABLED it would have no Vdroop (P5K has a huge Vdroop)..

If you could cool that Q6600 well enough you could hit 3.6 - 3.8GHz easily..

Regarding pure on the PCIE 2.0 standard,it would not make any difference compared to the PCIE 1.0 on the P5K..

CHEERS..
