My steam account was suspended. (Issue Solved) - Page 12

I didn't think that they disabled accounts when someone did a credit card chargeback on a gift purchase, I thought they just remove the game from the account it was gifted to. Maybe that's changed.

You made me think. I as well have only ever cheated in Diablo 2, with a map hack, and one time in MW1 with an aimbot, (forgive me) mostly out of spite for the game. I would NEVER cheat in a game that I actually enjoy, like Battlefield. Diablo 2 map hack in my defense isn't really cheating. I had played through the entire game so many times already, it was just annoying to search through the entire map just to find the entrance to the next area. Not like it harmed anyone's experience.

I don't however think it's necessary to chastise or boycott Steam because they have a system in place for preventing illegal use, whether intended or not. There isn't really any way for Valve to actually know that the OP's story is truthful or not, neither are the people working at Valve in a court of law. Many people bend and break the terms of the EULA and their accounts get banned. Many of them also probably come up with bogus stories in an attempt to get their accounts back. In a way, it sort of ruins it for those of us like the OP who are in an unfortunate circumstance.

In the end I think people should base their opinion of Steam on their own experiences and not the unfortunate ones of others. I am hoping for the best for our dear OP here at any rate.
I have been following this thread for a while now. IMO, steam totally deserves the negative aura in this thread. The issue is, in my mind, that the punishment does not fit the crime. In this case, the false accusation of crime. Taking all the games from an account for any period of time is way too much. They should keep him from playing the game in question, nothing more.

I read plenty of stories like this, where they ban an entire account just like that. No due process, no transparency, just plain stealing, really, an account worth possibly thousands of dollars. And all for a bad ebay transaction, an aimbot your brother used in CSS, any one of many reasons that just don't deserve the absolute obliteration of something that has a large tangible value.

Really, I think it's just a matter of time till some (very messed up already) kid does something wrong, resulting in an account ban, and the kid decides to take his own life as a result. Then the media will take a hold of it and we all know what happens then.

Happened on the weekend(I'm assuming) and I think you're letting your feelings get in the way of reality.

Reality is people are losing money because someone hacked their Credit/Debit card and those people buy whatever they can including games. Leading them to be sold on Ebay. Steam doesn't know me from Adam so how is this a punishment that doesn't fit the crime? They're covering their butts in case the owner of the card or the key comes back and sues them over it. In a court of law it could be deemed that Valve is knowingly accepting stolen money if they don't cover all their bases.

Does it suck? Hells yeah is does. But they didn't just single OP out just cus. They also disable accounts when they think it has been hacked by an outside source. Mine was recently disabled for that reason but I was able to confirm from my main point of access so it was re-enabled. You may have been following but I think you're letting your empathy for OPs' position cloud your perspective.

Well I'm done with this for now. I've said my piece. You're more than welcome to stick to your opinion if you want. Just would like to see us not losing our heads before Valve has a reasonable amount of time to clear it up.

So as a precaution steam bans you from your entire account and all the legally purchased games before this little fiasco? wow sounds a little over the top, I hope they get there just deserves...
When I was playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit online [Origin] there are a number of people that have illegally cracked the game and increased there car stats, makes playing them impossible to play with. One person in question had cracked the game and when I logged in to play, he took over my computer and controlled everything. I quickly reset my computer, and then went to the Origin web site and complained about this person and other players who cheat. I also went to the forums and voiced my problems. What happened? -Nothing Origin doesn't want to interfere with any of its legit members, or upset any hacking members!!
-Though they now sometimes police the games, but awful methods like if you look like your going too fast and have a cracked game, police cars will take you out, its happened to me when I was playing well in a few games...
Steam will do the same with you lemans81... they don't want to rock the boat, you will be fine!!
