My steam account was suspended. (Issue Solved) - Page 8

I bought a box game of Fallout 3, and when I put the CD key in on steam, it told me it was already used, AND steam banned my account accusing me of pirating. .

I tried for a week to get through to them and even scanned in my receipt and emailed them the receipt proving I bought the game. They claim it is statistically impossible for my key to have been registered already unless it was not legitimate.

My reply was if I pirated the game, why would I be stupid enough to try and register it with a Steam account full of games I paid for?

It pretty much ended with that, so I avoid steamworks like the plague now. They had their chance to make it right, and wouldn't even give me the opportunity to return the game and get another one.

Nobody here could say they wouldn't be pissed at steam if what happened to me, happened to you.

I had a strange experience with steam support, where I accidently created 2 accounts (slightly different spelling) when I went to a new computer. They both were registered to the same e-mail, so I thought I would contact steam and ask them to combine all games under 1 account. They would not. They were polite, but simply refused. No problem, I guess.

But this has me thinking, maybe I should put each new game I purchase under a new account. Yeah I would have multiple accounts, and it would be a bit of a bother to log in differently for each, but if they ban one of them, I would not lose my $600 investment. Just one game.

These type if things I have read about Steam honestly concern me. I have been a loyal customer since 2005 and probably have over $7K worth of games in my acct. Never have been banned etc but wow!

Yes, unfortunately there was nothing they could do because I had prior email contact and they stood by their original decision. I hope you got better luck with them than I did, if not then its not like its the end of the world, there are always other options. If you end up getting screwed like I did, you might have a change of heart about it.

I don't think its right to subject the consumer to a set of rules that can deny access to products they paid for. Many of these games don't even require online multiplayer, and they only funnel you through steam because they use it as a DRM. Only the people who buy the games are subject to DRMs, pirates get around the DRMs. So it has absolutely no effect on mitigating piracy, and only subjects a form of control over the gaming market that IMO isn't justified. Steam is about control of the market, and control of the products.

You see that is a common misconception, is that you lose the game, you don't actually lose them if they are installed on your computer. A file the size of a few KBs solves the problem.

steam is strange. a while ago i purchased some steam games with paypal and paypal reversed the charges on the games because it deemed it a unsafe transaction. all steam did was remove the games. no email. no banning, no nothing.

This is why you should NEVER buy cd keys from websites or ebays. Just pay for it on steam. Less problems. Sucks though that happened to you. I know prices can be a bit hefty but they can go lower when holidays come around the corner.

wow man that sucks, if you can't get it back I would file a lawsuit claiming huge damages including emotional trauma (at least if you live in America, as lawsuits are common and easy to win)

We need to educate people in the world about how to avoid / detect scams. Seriously! Nothing is free in this world. There is always a catch.
