Yeah my thoughts exactly. I figured if it needed to be said then I will let them know I am a manager on a site with three quarters of a million registered members....not to mention some of the best members anywhere and that I will let them know word for word their responses. Hopefully that will hurt their pocketbook enough to make them change their mind. I really am hoping for better treatment than that though. I have posted before they asked, all the credit card info, my home address, phone numbers, did the verify the email thing. Posted a pic of the paypal on the deal, a pic of ebay, and a pic of me reporting that guy to ebay and paypal.

How they respond to this issue will determine whether or not I EVER spend another dollar on Steam again.

^^^Why? Should Steam take it in the pooter when people enter fraudulent keys or when stolen credit cards are used to purchase keys? They may not be out anything but it costs labor to deal with these issues. It's in their ToS for cryin out loud. I fail to see the reasoning of people when they start pounding their chest like a peeved orangutang when something like this happens.

I'm pretty sure Steam will understand that mistakes happen. If not just open another account and move on wiser to the pitfalls of buying keys through Ebay. I'll buy keys here but I won't mess with anything that isn't tangible and came in an unopened package through Ebay or any other online auction site. You're more than welcome to take your chances, but me I'm stayin outta that piranha trap.

But c'mon, Steam isn't the only company that cracks down on account violations ricky tick. Fraud is fraud no matter how you slice it. Ebay seller probably used cracked keys and that's how OP got bit in the keester.

I wonder how smart Ebay seller is anyway? I mean he didn't have to refund it except that it impacts his seller rating. But most of those guys are probably changing names and accounts as much as they change their diapers.

So I'm glad OP was refunded. I just hope Steam takes your history into account and reinstates your account. Don't know what I would do if my account was suspended.

Hi there, I read through bits and pieces of the thread but it sounds like you did not get your account back?

I'd definitely keep pushing the bucket on this.

Also if you need to use any legal mumbo jumbo argue that your wife is not an authorized user on the account so Your account was improperly used, thus you cannot be at fault and so should restore your account to you. You did not authorize the registration, installation, and or use of said product.

The game key must have been traced back to be purchased with illegal funds to have the account suspended.
Nope they just removed Dirt 3 from my games list. The key still works fine on GFWL though.

lemans your account is worth $100(+) more than mine. Not too chabby. Hope they reinstate you. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't intentionally throw fraudulent key in your library even if it was a game that made you real money while you play it.

I might but you wouldn't.

I get what your saying, but no where in steams user agreement does it say "do not buy games off ebay or we will ban your account" my wife(or I) did not in any way commit fraud or participate in fraud. I mean lets say you buy something from a flea market or trade show and it turns out to be stolen. Then yes you have stolen goods, but if you have legitimate receipt and can lead the police directly to who sold it and where you got it,(and you have perfectly clean record) then the police are not going to throw you in jail...and no this is not an opportunity to start talking about politics or the legal system, I am talking in general.

That is one way to attack it I suppose. Actually no they have not given it back, but honestly I don't think they have had enough time to be fair to them. I figure they have only been open today about 3 hours now.

I don't see why people are holding Valve's feet to the fire over this and claiming to "never use Steam again if they don't give the games back". I do feel for the OP and I fully recognize that the whole thing was an accident and made in good intentions.

I don't however think it's necessary to chastise or boycott Steam because they have a system in place for preventing illegal use, whether intended or not. There isn't really any way for Valve to actually know that the OP's story is truthful or not, neither are the people working at Valve in a court of law. Many people bend and break the terms of the EULA and their accounts get banned. Many of them also probably come up with bogus stories in an attempt to get their accounts back. In a way, it sort of ruins it for those of us like the OP who are in an unfortunate circumstance.

In the end I think people should base their opinion of Steam on their own experiences and not the unfortunate ones of others. I am hoping for the best for our dear OP here at any rate.
