IBT stable ... not at all - Page 2

5 runs...

No.

You need an overnight run of IBT and another overnight run of Prime95 to claim stability.

I don't have an SB chip so I can't really help you with overclocking it. if you can't get it fully stable then I suggest either increase your vcore or decrease the overclock a bit. the best way to overclock is to get a stable overclock first. I'm talking about 12 hours prime95, 6 hours IBT stable. if you can manage to get an oc setting that is stable.

you can go from there and increase your clock speed incremently(along with vcore and other variables) like what I did with mine. I just had this i7 for less than a week. got a stable 4ghz overclock stable first. then decreased the voltages to the lowest possible setting that will still maintain stability. after I got it then started increasing the frequencies. I only got it stable at 4.1ghz for now. I'm working on a 4.2ghz OC atm. only got it stable upto 6 hours at prime. I'm working at it atm.

video cards are a lot easier to overclock. I also came from two gtx 470's. afai remember I had the gpu voltage at 1.075(maybe 1.08** for some) then overclocked the gpu clock to 800mhz 1600shaders then the memory to 2000mhz. every 470 can oc to that imo. you can use MSI kombustor for stress testing but the best way to stress test for gpu overclcoks is actually playing games. if it runs without any problems then it's stable

Edit: I've had overclocks fail after 24-48 hours of folding. It can realistically take several days if you're aiming for 24/7 folding stab

Edit 2: I should have mentioned, stability tests, such as IBT and prime are still useful. However, they may not be indicative of stability while using F@H. For my 920 I waited for 100 runs of IBT with max memory, but even that crashed while folding and required another voltage tweak.
Why do people fold to test stability? For all you know, you're hurting the cause by sending bad information.

Also if you read prime95's readme it suggests 24 hrs of torture as a stability test.

Never had an issue with stability if it passes 24 hrs of prime95 at worst case ambient temps.

For comps I make for friends and family I run prime95 for at least 48 hrs.

People need to just take the one day to verify that they are stable.

I have never seen a 100% prime95 stable system not be F@H stable. But I have seen F@H stable computers that are not 100% prime95 stable.

124 is more often qpi/vtt then vcore buddy, try to raise your vtt a bit and see if that helps

I editted my post to clarify. When I tested my 920, I passed 100 runs of IBT and 24 hours prime95 blend stable, but crashed within my first bigadv unit for F@H. On my 2700k, I stressed using the Linux package for 4 days trying to obtain stability, and when i reached a 24 hour mark, I switched to F@H... And again, was met with crashes after several hours. Yes, there is potential to hurt Stanford with these crashes, but to date, I have submitted over 6000 WU to Stanford. My machine will be running 24/7 for years, and I would think that would make up for the couple units that MAY have been corrupted.

I've run 20 passes of IBT with 8 threads, max memory stress and it passed that. Fired up F@H and it BSOD within 10 minutes. Added voltage and the problem went away.
I can p ass 20 even 50 runs ibt on maximum.........soon as i start p95 bam 124 bsod.

With my system every 124 BSOD I got was solved with a little more vcore.

To the OP: Are you using a fixed voltage or are you using an offset voltage?

I thought it would be common knowledge on the OCN by now, that IBT/LinX AVX is not a good way to stability test Sandybridge, but instead Prime95 Blend for 12 hours + is the supreme stability test for Sandybridge.

I cannot believe how stubborn people are. Still claiming IBT/LinX is a good way to test stability for Sandybridge. Only thing it's good for is creating insane and totally unrealistic ammounts of heat.

Each to his own.. I'm using Prime95 Blend with custom mem use. Also using it for Socket 775 system. Works excellent.

Euhm... what does it mean? I set LLC @ 100% (Extreme) if that's what you mean? I use to set it at 75% (Ultra High) though...

I'm not stubborn. And I've never heard/read it that those test are not good for SB. Excuuuse me and as I said before: I was stable at 5.0GHz/1.5V for weeks (playing games) until it BSOD's --> but that was nvidia driver related after all. I used the Juan José guide to achieve that OC btw.

Now something else:

How about the temps?
Quote:
Your fine with temperatures up to 90 degrees while heavy stress testing, if your a bit scared to go there try stay below 85 degrees then.
What you guys think the SB 2600K may have before it dies? (Don't care that much of degration?/degradation? because I'll upgrade it before it prolly dies... --> It does not mean I'll kill it on purpose )
