Coming to AMD territory?

Thread Starter
I've been nVidia's guy for 6 years now... And it looks like I might come to AMD/ex-ATI territory... I am looking for new graphic card... At start of research I hoocked up on GTX 560 Ti, then I jumped to GTX 570, and yesterday I scratched the surface of AMD... 6950 and 6970... Damn... Asus Radeon HD 6970 is same priced as Asus GTX 570, and Asus HD Radeon 6950 is 50 euros cheaper than GTX 570... Now I see that AMD is more bang for the buck... I am running my 22" monitor at 1680 x 1050, so I need single GPU, no fancy SLI, Crossfire, 3D Vision Surround, eyefinity etc etc... Now I am Intel guy and I am not going to change that for life, and was thinking the same for nVidia/ATI... What do you recommend me, is nVidia loosing it with those prices, I mean better performance and 50 euros less with AMD? What should I do, I just want best performance without giving 500 euros for GPU, because I can't afford it... I think that 6950/6970 will go great with my rig, I just want one GPU for 1 monitor, 22'' 1680... I think 6950 will go great, I will save some money too...

How will AMD 6970 perform compared to GTX 570 in games and benchmarks, they are the same priced, I found this one great... http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/A...69702DI2S2GD5/
What do you think guys? As I said I was long time nVidia user so this is a bit shock to me...

Not sure where you are pulling your benchmarks from... The 570 performs better than the 6950 in every case.

Although the 6950 is a great card and if I was you I would get that over a 570 for sure.

EDIT: The 6970 is just about the exact same performance as a 570. Some times the 6970 pulls ahead and some times the 570 pull ahead, but nonetheless pretty much the same performance.

So GTX 570 will beat AMD Radeon HD 6970, by a big or small margin?

I admit that nVidias are efficient--they have proved their mettel over all these years--but ATIs win in terms of GFLOPS....

nVidias win when heavy rastering is involved.---scaling resolution...

6970s are good with DX11 games, but I might be biased here

depends on the resolution you want to play now and later, if you think you might want a bigger resolution later, go with the 6970 maybe maybe later crossfire it when you want to go even bigger.

a 6950 would also be a good choice since the 6970 and 6950 are essentially the same cards and there is a way to unlock the '50 to work as a '70

The 6970 beats the 570 in most cases... not the other way around.
They tesselate better and have more ram + they scale better and supersample in dx9.
Oh yeh and they look better

Yeah they are, until you start to turn up the eye candy....Though I disagree with the thread starters post about the 570 vs 6950/6970, I'm sure he'll get good performance with the new AMD card he chooses. The Nvidia cards come at a premium because you get more features(Cuda,3D, physx, Nvidia surround). Also with nvidia you get improved tessellation perfomance and greater gains from overclocking versus AMD cards.

Beats the 6950 in every case and for example Battlefield 3 at your resolution at Ultra, it beats it too:

Source: http://www.guru3d.com/article/battle...nchmark-test/5

You have to remember though, that the 6950 is not competing with the 570, the 6970 is. The reason AMD cards get beat in this benchmark is because of AA is turned on and I am sure you want to use AA at this low of a res.. Note this benchmark results is also true at 1080p..
