Nah, the community has always been bad. BF2 had the worst community ever. Worse than COD if you went to the wrong servers. Thing is that IW got a good idea with perks and killstreaks and now they're EVERYTHING. Really, if DICE had come up with killstreaks for BF2, we would've had the same games 5 years ago that we have now.
I can see those features from a casuals side ("hey, I get to be awesome for once with this chopper gunner"), but I hate that the games are starting to remove competitive features
, like lean, dedi servers and dinosaurs. If we still had those and some balance as an alternate game mode or something, I'd be thrilled. COD barebones is the right thought, but lacks, you know, the dedis, the lean, the dinosaurs and the balance.
