Corsair 16GB Vengeance Kit

Hey guys,

So I recently bought a 16GB kit of Corsair Vengeance RAM (CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9). I have a small problem (well big if you want to look at it that way).

So What I've learned is that the RAM defaults to 1333MHz because of the memory controller. To get 1600MHz and the default/speced speed and timings you have to use Intel XMP. I turned on XMP, but the situation is as follows.

1) Running at 1333MHz, Memtest86 does a pass with no errors with my i5 at stock settings (all things set to default in motherboard)
2) I turned on XMP, speed and timings are 1600 9-9-9-24-2N, 1.5V but first run through memtest86, I get an error at Test 5 (still testing right now) UPDATE: I just got 5 more errors on test 8, lol.

Should I RMA my ram? Will this affect my ability to get a a good overclock? Could this possibly be a voltage problem?

have you tried bumping your voltage up a smidge?

Like up to 1.55 on the RAM? I can give that a shot.

The memory controller might need a small bump as well.
And you dont have to us XMP. You can up the multiplier for the RAM manually.
The same applies for the timings. I would never use XMP since you can do manually. And lets say you want 8-9-9-XY - you can`t to this with XMP. So you are way more flexible.
But my bet is that the IMC just can`t handle 4sticks with the default voltage.

Which voltage is for the memory controller?

I too am having the same issue, so upping these voltages should be done in the Bios?
I have 8 Gig of the same ram with the same 1333 MHz on default settings.

Actually, my Vengeance sticks are rated to 1866...but I'm assuming the road to get there is the same...

Sorry, since I don`t own a maximus I can`t tell you how it is called on this mobo. But this should be listed in the manual. You want to up the voltage for the IMC.

I think its under the VCCSA/IO setting for my motherboard, from what I've read the two are linked.

I ended up RMAing it, Amazon is cross-shipping, so no biggie.
