Best soundcard for BF3?

At the moment i use the small Soundblaster X-fi card with a normal stereo headset in Battlefield 3.
I do though have difficulties distinguishing where the sound is coming from and i recently made a post on what i should choose hardware wise so i ended up wanting a new soundcard and headset.
Im leaning toward the Asus Xonar D1 since i can see in the drivers it can downmix surround to surround so i get that surround sound in a set of stereo cans.
As far as i know the X-fi titanium does not. It uses this CMSS3D and well i cant hear where the shots are coming from though i do get a nice open soundfield but thats just not enough.

I have a Xonar DX and can hear position very easily. You may just need to tweak your equalizer really.

naaah i have tweaked the hell out of my soundblaster X-fi without luck. My final setting is the best though the rear channels sounds like they are comming from above and not from the rear.
There arent much to do in creatives driver anyway. Imo they suck.
Oh to hell with it ill just make a shot in the dark and order a D2X tomorrow and hope it works better for me than the Soundblaster, hopefully i can sell either one of them either way.

Im using a pair of old Philips HP-910
Im ordering a new headset today as well. i think ill buy Sennheiser pc360 g4me
