Zalman CNPS 12X

http://guru3d.com/news/zalman-cnps-12x-review/

this just came out
anybody got a chance to personally use this?

it got a pretty good review and it was quite comprehensive
the only draw back is the installation, price and it's quite heavy (1000 grams)
would that put alot of stress on a mobo mounted vertically?

i am considering this for a future i7 3930k build (says it supports socket 2011)
and they way X79 is with the double sided ram slots, looks like more of a hassle to install
looks good imo

Quite impressive, I must say :O

But as you pointed out, the weight is quite high. Dunno if it does anything, but I'll stick to my H100 :>

That's the only positive review I've seen for it. Considering they're using an old i5 and didn't compare it at higher overclocks where the good coolers really start to strut I would take it with a grain of salt. I'd wait for more reviews if you're going to buy it, but I strongly advise against it. It's got built in fans so you can't change them if you wanted to, and it's more expensive than already established coolers like the Silver Arrow and NH-D14.

I have yet to hear of a motherboard breaking or being damaged due to the weight of the HSF.

Zalman is still keen on that old flower design. It got beaten (CNPS 9700) by TRUE, later on by tower heatsinks of that type. According to here, it loses to even a Core Contact Freezer (cheap HDT of 2008-09).

All that bling but unfortunately, doesn't help a cooler of that shape, especially with slow fans.
