Overclock Q6600 on EP45-UD3P

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I'm looking for a little advice on overclocking my Q6600 G0. I've got it set to 3.2Ghz right now and it seems to be working fine (haven't done a really long prime95 test yet though). I was hoping someone could look over my BIOS settings and tell me if everything looks ok or if I should change some things around to improve stability etc. Also, I'd like to be at 3.4Ghz but everytime I try I get the blue screen in windows. What should I do to achieve 3.4? My system specs are in my signature and I'm using the Corsair H50 cooler. Here's a few pictures of my BIOS settings:

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you so much for your time.

Might try increasing the multiplier to 9x in case it's hitting an fsb wall..i always ran my Q6600 at 400x9. So bring multiplier up and let fsb down a little(uness you want to try 3.6ghz) and you can add some voltage..i ran mine at 1.43 or something like that..remember the older chips can take voltage much better than current chips

I was at 356x9 for 3.2Ghz but I just changed it a little while ago because I noticed that 400x8 made the memory frequency go up from 712 to 800. Does this matter at all? What should my CPU voltages be for 3.4? Would 3.6 be possible with my system?

What are your temps?

if they are good, then up the multi to 9 keep the 400 fsb & then raise the Vcore up one setting at a time (not more than 1.5v(ish)) until you get into windows. then test (it will probably fail the first time) if it fails raise the Vcore again and retest.

Just keep an eye on your temps.

What temps are considered safe? I'm testing 3.4Ghz at 1.4 voltage. Running prime95 my temps are 50-60c on all cores.

Using realtemp (tjmax is 100) so @ full load while testing you should try to stay 20/30c under 100 (so 70/80)

I am running @ max load around 22c from tjmax (the temps in the software are aprox)

in normal use and gaming i get know where near that.

I'm shooting for 3.6Ghz for the hell of it. I've got it set to 400x9 like you suggested with 1.46250 voltage and just started prime95 (lets hope this works...)
I should probably mention that I am going to replace my HD 4870 video card with an HD 6950 later this week (part of the reason I want a good OC). Will the power consumption of that card have an impact on how far I can OC my CPU on a 650w power supply?

Alright guys, I ran prime95 for about 20 minutes at 3.6Ghz and 1.5 voltage. Max temp i saw was 71c on one core. I got the BSOD and my computer restarted. What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't 1.5 be enough voltage?
