Na it's definitely out of the return period (Amazon).

Gonna take a look at this website, maybe they can give a me reasonable quote.

Having repaired tons of laptops myself I can tell you that HP laptops are literally made in spite of people like me who fix computers. HP laptops are so much harder to take apart and work on than any other brand (except maybe mac) that you just know they are trying to make it hard on purpose.

That said, a new LCD is about $100 USDs on ebay, less if it a smaller than average screen. They are fairly easy to install and replace.

You sure about that? every brand has a nightmare laptop.

Toshiba has a model that requires you to take out the motherboard to replace the HDD.

Asus G73's are known to overheat due to poor TIM, and guess what? It takes FOREVER to disassemble and reassemble them.

Dont get me started on IBM/Lenovo..

Macs arent that bad to be honest. I hate doing diagnostics on obscure problems with them, but in terms of installing parts they arent too difficult, except for installing a second HDD into a mac mini.... yeah go **** yourself then apple.
