I would say don't be afraid to play with the fsb a little my chip likes 229 fsb and 18.5 multiple for 4.2 ghz and 1.5 vcore. Testing it right now.

If you can hold steady at 4.0 thats still pretty good.

I brought the voltage up to 1.45. So far it is steady at 4.02 GHZ. Should I mess around with anything else to keep it extra stable? Haha.

You need to run a stress test program like Prime95 to insure stability, as it's been said if you bluescreen then you likely need more vCore voltage or DRAM voltage. Start by uping it by 0.01v at a time until you get somewhat stable then back it down by 0.001v to find your lowest stable voltage. Watch your "Core Temp" under load and keep them under 62C and 60C for extended periods. See my guide for more information on temps and what to watch for.

For complete stability of the entire system you need to run a minimum of 12HRS in Prime95. Although rare, data corruption can happen from an unstable CPU with less than 10HRS of Prime. There are plenty of stress programs such as Y-Cruncher that can give you a quicker idea of the state of stability, but ultimately it's recommended that you finish off with a 12HR run in Prime.

Alright Alucard. Once I get to my goal I will make sure to run a stress test. Thanks.

While I am happy with my processor running at 4 GHZ I would really like to bring it to 4.2 GHZ. Obviously I would need to raise the voltage. But I also think I will now have to mess with other components to reach 4.2 GHZ. Any advice? What should I adjust? Because I did try putting it at 4.2 and it gave me the blue screen of death.

Try setting the voltage manually to 1.45 on the CPU, 1.35 on the CPU-NB, 1.65 on the RAM. Base clock 250, multi 16, NB multi 12, adjusting the memory divider to move the RAM to its appropriate speed. Boot and start running Prime, paying attention to where it fails, if it fails. Multi's over 17 tend to be more unstable.

Thanks Dave.

I tried all of what you said, aside from adjusting my memory timings. I realized that these settings were for getting me to 4.0 GHZ.

My goal is to reach 4.2 GHZ.

If those settings worked and it runs Prime overnight, bump the multi. The settings were to baseline what your chip can do. If your system has a hard time with the settings I put earlier, then 4.2 would probably not happen. If they do, bump multi .5 and test some more adding .1v if it fails. I have mine at 250x17.5 and it's working out fairly well, 18 multi doesn't work so well even with only 200 base clock.

The HT multi should 8, and when you say you didn't change ram divider how come the extra base clock didn't cause the memory to become unstable from all the extra MHz?

i seem to be stuck at 4.2ghz on my 1090t @ 1.58v under load in prime95, never passing over 30c temp. stable for 10hours. NB freq @ 3000mhz , HT freq @ 2000mhz , 1600mhz memory ( 9-9-9-24 )

i am trying to go higher but i either get bsod or it just freezes on windows loading screen.

any ideas? i tried lots of different combinations, lowered HT, raised NB and lowered NB. no go. raise NB volts. only thing i have not tried was raising CPU volts, which i wont be doing. could it be it needs more cpu voltage ?
